The Cemetery

The Cemetery – a quiet place with room for dignity
On the edge of the historic institutional grounds lies the cemetery – a place where both staff and residents were laid to rest. The cemetery was established as a natural part of the institution's life cycle and reflects the view of humanity that shaped Professor Christian Keller's work: that everyone – regardless of life circumstances – deserves dignity in both life and death.
The graves are simple and arranged in symmetrical rows. Each resident had their own gravesite, marked with a white wooden cross bearing their name, date of birth, and date of death.
A particular sense of peace can be felt in this place. The cemetery was tended with care, and many residents themselves took part in the daily work here.
In the middle of the cemetery rises a memorial column – erected in memory of the 1,650 people who lived their entire lives at the institution and found their final resting place here. It is a place for reflection and stillness. A place where history does not speak loudly, but can still be felt.
