Welcome to Kellers Minde

A historic area full of stories

You are standing in the heart of Kellers Minde – a unique area by Vejle Fjord, where buildings and surroundings bear witness to more than 100 years of history. This was once the site of De Kellerske Institutions, which from 1899 onwards was home and workplace for hundreds of people with special needs.

Through this historical walk, you gain insight into life behind the walls: everyday life for women and men, girls and boys who lived and worked here, the structure of the institution, and the ideas behind it all.

Professor Christian Keller wanted to create an open institution, as family-like as possible, where residents could move around freely. Each building had its function and its story – some housed work homes, others served as residences or workshops.

Start wherever you like and be guided through the Kellerske Institutions. At each location, signs provide additional information about each building.

Scan QR codes around the area to explore each building further – see images and get insights into how life unfolded right here – once and now.
