The Water Tower

The Water Tower – utility with a view

The water tower in Brejning was built as one of the very first structures in the institutional area – side by side with its accompanying pump station. From early on, it was clear that they were not simply constructing a collection of random buildings, but a cohesive and functional community. The water tower is clear evidence of just that: deliberate and carefully considered planning from the very beginning.

The tower provided water to the entire area and ensured steady pressure in the taps – at the hospitals, residential wards, and farm buildings alike. Its placement on the high ground was no coincidence. From here, water could be distributed efficiently – while also offering an impressive view across the fjord and the rolling landscape.

Architecturally, the water tower stands as a striking silhouette and a visual reminder of how ambitious and self-sufficient the Keller institutional project was conceived to be. It was more than a care institution – it was a whole little world unto itself, where nothing was left to chance.
