The Farm Home

The Farm Home – work, rhythm, and a view

In 1905, the Farm Home was put into use as a residence for 20 inhabitants who spent their days in the fields, stables, and workshops. This was home to those who were strong enough to take part in the institution's extensive farming operations – a central part of everyday life in Brejning.

Farming was not merely a practical necessity. It was also part of the pedagogical philosophy: that rhythm, responsibility, and physical work could provide structure and meaning in the lives of those in care. At the Farm Home, residents who were able and willing were given the opportunity to contribute – and to be part of a community centred on something tangible and close to life.

Today, the building has been given new life as an administrative building for the surrounding institutions. It bears the name Fjordglimt and still stands with a view over the landscape that its former residents knew so well – and that many of them helped to shape.
